Tobey Maguire definitely is not a teenage girl fantasy. He looks geeky, pensive, and boring, but whenever he plays sincere roles onscreen, he switches into an important, no-nonsense actor. Even with the crappy glitz of the Hollywood fame, he chooses to veer from the limelight and the public eye because deep inside, he's just a boy like Peter Parker, struggling for brilliance in an ordinary and not-so-ordinary world. For that, Tobey Maguire may fall short on appeal but he's definitely on high when it comes to acting prowess.
On June 27, 1975, Tobias Vincent Maguire was brought into the world, in Santa Monica in sunny California. His life was nothing like Spiderman's adventure. As a young boy, he was typically shy, quiet, and reserved. Her parents, Wendy and Vincent, split up when he was only 2 years old. From then on, the family moved from one place to another, leaving the young Tobey frazzled with living conditions. Imagine Peter Parker, then you'll know how life's been for this timid actor. He even had to quit school due to tremendous teen pressure. One day, he found himself taking drama classes because of his persuasive mom.
The true drama of his acting career came when he was cast to star for the "The Cider House Rules" opposite Charlize Theron and co-starring Michael Cane. He became a popular face in 1999 for this Oscar-winning movie, which stirred a lot of gossips and controversies all over America. But publicity proved to be worthy when he landed the role of geeky Peter Parker in the 2002 blockbuster hit, "Spider-Man." From a timid actor to a sensational Hollywood hero, he since then made millions and made a solid foot on stardom and fame.

Are you looking a smashing action thriller? Don't keep your hopes too high for " Miami Vice." I know that Colin Farrell has an explosive acting stance and Jamie Foxx has an undeniable charm, but please, too much attitude won't do you any good. Both characters are ripping the movie apart. They're competing for camera scenes. It will be hard for the TV series fan to accept this blatant truth, but sometimes, movies do no justice to long-term series. If I were you, I'll wait for the DVD subscription -- maybe you'll appreciate the silly lines better with its subtitle. On a fair note, I'd say that it's somewhat sexy and thrilling to have these chracters, only, they may be too conscious with their billing.

Tubbs (Jamie Foxx) and Crockett (Collin Farrell) team up for another police mission to hunt a criminal at a wild Miami nightclub. But when their informant begs that they cover for his family's safety, the two agents are then led to another maze and mystery. Tubbs and Crockett then go and involve themselves in a rescue mission. However, they are baffled with why their informant was so freaked out. All of a sudden, they accidentally trip over an illegal operation, which involved different police agencies in conspiracy. I didn't know any more lame explanation as to the reason or the background of such conspiracy, but the "Miami Vice" duo lead the bust against a drug lord, who ships a boat load of drugs to South Florida.

No rules, no law, no order, the real "Miami Vice" action film is not as deadly as it sounds! I was disappointed actually and would prefer a Don Johnson-Phillip Michael Thomas active police version on TV. There's too many yap and flap than the actual action. Unluckily for Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx, they didn't hit it as a sizzling on-screen duo. It's a shame to see that even Chris Rock and Jackie Chan can do better with their chemistry! It's not as good as publicity says and sorry to Director Michael Mann, but the movie is a big flop. The plot is hard to follow while the dialogue is overdone. Even with Farrell's bad boy image and Jamie Foxx's sleek grooves, there wasn't enough to spice up the action and fun.

Olivia Wilde? She's not as famous as Julia Roberts or as promising as Keira Knightley, but after playing the role of Alex Kelly in season 2 of the popular hit T.V. drama "The O.C.", men are completely blown away by her sexy, slithering charms. Although she played as a bisexual and female partner for Mischa Barton, she still looks so hot with a slender figure and strong, pretty face. And come on, one-one with a girl, she's the ultimate fantasy for men. But sorry guys, she's already married to a prince. So for now, we'll just see her more on the screen with a couple of independent movies and cameo roles.

Olivia Cockburn was born on March 10, 1984 in New York City. She then adopted the onscreen name Wilde as a screen name inspired by playwright Oscar Wilde. Though she was born in the Big Apple, she's raised in Washington D.C. and even travelled to Ireland during summers where she studied at Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin preparing for an acting career. Olivia Wilde is the granddaughter of writer James Helvick and the daughter of journalist Andrew Cockburn. She married the Italian prince Tao Rapuli who is a dicumentary filmmaker, photographer and flamenco guitar player.

After graduation, Olivia Wilde then decided to work in a casting agency in L.A. where she also landed a cameo role for "Girl Next Door". She took another step and made her acting debut a full-time career. She was then cast as a lead role in T.V. show "Skin" but it is in Fox's "The O.C." that she garnered the most appeal from male viewers. As a sexy temptress, she also graced the screen with Gwyneth Paltrow and Alec Baldwin in "Running with Scissors" along with a significant appearance in "Alpha Dog". This 5' 7 1/2" star will soon captivate the screen with her film line-ups this year. She's sexy, fun and mystreious, that's why men love her!

If there's one movie I've really been itching to see, it is Spiderman 3. Unfortunately, there hasn't been any announcement for the plot while they're currently shooting the action scenes and different episodes. But it only sizzles my impatient curiosity more, as I think how it's going to be for Peter Parker now that his identity's been revealed in the last sequel. I bet you've been dying to know but die now and pay later because it won't be available in the silverscreen 'til several months from now. At least, let me share with you my conspiracy for the Spiderman 3 movie.
Sunday, May 6. 2007
I'll bet you on this one, Peter Parker's bestfriend will be his ultimate nemesis in this next sequel of Spiderman adventure. For a time now, tension's building up between the two. First with MJ and second with the Peter Parker-Spiderman revelation. So what else can we expect? Well, there can only be more intense drama and conclusion but I don't think it's going to be a happy ending with Peter and MJ. Sorry to break the hearts of Spiderman romantics. Challenge me a bet on this one! What makes Spiderman different from other superhero flicks is the realistic flaws and emotional battles of a boy like Peter. We can relate to him more than we can relate to Spiderman and his web threading action stunts. Let's wait and see but my third eye tells me that it's a hell better than the second one!
Saturday, May 5. 2007
Brandon Routh sure looks all mighty and more gorgeous than Tobey Maguire but who needs a debonaire when all we need is real boy like Peter Parker. We've outgrown the Kryptonite drama and even Orlando Bloom's Lois Lane can do nothing to turn up the fire. And please, Spiderman even has a better costume idea than a red cape and a brief. He's got the heart, the brains and the soul, so if I were you I'll stick it out with Spiderman who's like you and me-- poor, broke, deserted and torn. Now, I call that a realistic fantasy! It breaks my heart to see Lois and Clark apart but it rips my heart how MJ has to back out of her wedding. Of the two leading ladies, I'd choose the red head who's more fun and exciting. I just hope the latest poster for the Spiderman 3 movie is not an image bluff or lots of fans will be disappointed.

I wonder how Ethan Hawke will react after watching "My Super Ex-Girlfriend" on the silver screen. Will it rekindle a few sweet memories with ex-wife Uma Thurman, or will he see himself in the story as the object of Uma's attraction? Better yet, will he despise the superhero Uma who once overshadowed his career after Kill Bill? As sleazy as my taunting gossips, there's more reason for you to watch "My Super Ex- Girlfriend". After Superman and X-Men, let's see the less sophisticated side of being a superhero.
Thursday, May 3. 2007
Uma Thurman plays the role of the Super Ex who's deeply in love with boyfriend Luke Wilson. But Wilson is in love with Anna Faris who only sees him as a friend. So it's more like a bizarre love triangle with a kick of Fatal Attraction, only more spoof and fun. I don't know with you but I like the idea of having a silly, insecure superhero for a change. We'll have a taste of a woman's wrath on screen after the Super Ex discovers that Wilson doesn't like her as much she does. Unrequited love makes us go nuts! So if you're in a mood for a few laughs without having to bust your brains out, you should consider seeing this movie with your super ex or a new girlfriend.
Wednesday, May 2. 2007
You must be pissed off to see Scary Movie 4! The spoofs are far from funny except for the Tom Cruise-Oprah spin. But it shouldn't stop you from seeing the superhero spoofs of "My Super Ex-Girlfriend". Want to know the secret superhero sex life? That's something we haven't seen yet. All superheroes can do is flirt, always to be bound by mystery like James Bond. So how cool it can get? The Kill Bill star is obsessed! It's so darn light, and all you have to do is laugh. Of course it's goofy and silly, so don't expect an M Night Shyamalan conclusion. That's what you'll like about it.

Captain Jack is back for another sea adventure. Although we've seen Johnny Depp take a rather eccentric role like Willy Wonka, that doesn't mean he's no longer cool. In fact, I'm impressed how secure he is as an actor. He was a heartthrob who broke a long term engagement with Winona Ryder and supermodel Kate Moss. Depp is a cool pirate though he looks like a wandering soul from a gypsy tribe. After seeing the first adventure of the Pirates of the Carribean, nobody can stop me from seeing the next installment of Depp and the sea.

There's no easy way to escape debt at all. It will haunt you dead or alive, and Captain Jack Sparrow have to settle a deal with Davy Jones or he'll live a life of curse and misery. You must be mistaken to think that the adventure's over. Captain Jack is on a mission to find and claim the Dead Man's Chest. It has the treasure that the captain of the Flying Dutchman will accept in exchange for the pirate's freedom and vindication. But before he gets his hands on the treasure chest, Sparrow has to be united with his old friends bringing them to the entrails of the sea with reincarnated underwater creatures to feast on Sparrow alive. It's a Gore Verbinski film and it's worth the hassle.

Anyone who sees this movie will either do a thumbs up or a thumbs down. There were times when I liked it and there were times when I felt that the first one was better. Either way, both films will keep you hanging a little longer for two and a half hours. Good thing skeletons pop to the scenes to go sword-fighting with Depp. Oh, haven't I mentioned the beautiful Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom? Never mind though, their romance failed to heat up the screen. Even if Knightley will soon be married to Bloom in the story, I can even spot more sizzling tension and excitement between Depp and Knightley. Or maybe, I just don't like Bloom whose role in Troy was as lame as his pirate adventure stint. So enough of Orlando, I'm not even looking for a good character. Besides, villains can be real stars like Bill Nighy who's awesome with Sparrow. Depp and Nighy nailed it for the rest of the cast. And please, give the movie an Oscar for a great production design. So for a quick wrap-up, let me just say that we can't always expect a sequel to be as good as the original but hell, it's Johnny Depp in a pirate movie. It's like an Indiana Jones classic.

Whichever business you get into, the fact remains that it's tough to mark your spot and get noticed. Even in Hollywood, a good resume is an actor's most powerful tool in snagging the best roles. Being called "Academy Award Winner" could bring glitter to an actor's resume. Everybody just wants to join the ranks of Merryl Streep and Jack Nicholson. But throughout history, contrary to what is expected, there were quite a number of actors whose career suffered a major setback after winning an Oscar. Critics are calling it the "Oscar Jinx."

We were all impressed with Hilary Swank's daring performance as a woman living a man's life in Boys Don't Cry. After bagging an Oscar Best Actress for the role, Swank was elevated as one of the best actresses of her generation. The only memory I had of her prior to Boys Don't Cry was in the movie The Next Karate Kid over a decade ago. She was supposed to have to great career after the Oscar win, but ended up portraying "nowhere" roles in The Gift, The Affair of the Necklace, The Core, and Insomnia. Thank God for Clint Eastwood, she was again honored by the Academy for Million Dollar Baby. But Clint had her play a boxer in the movie, basically a another guy role. What's with Swank and guy roles?! I know she has a face of a guy, but with her acting prowess she should not be typecasted in guy roles. Good thing Daniel Craig was there. Swank was so good in guy roles she can play James Bond, and could even win an Oscar.

Over the past four decades, only two Bond Girls went on to win an Oscar. Kim Basinger was in the unofficial Bond film Never Say Never Again opposite Sean Connery. She won an Oscar for playing a Veronica Lake look-alike prostitute in LA Confidential. But after that, she starred in forgettable films like I Dreamed of Africa, Bless the Child, and Cellular. Even re teaming with her LA Confidential director Curtis Hanson for the movie 8 Mile failed to revive her career. She was Eminem's mother, for Pete's sake! Same was the case with Halle Berry. She was the first African-American Oscar Best Actress, winning for the film Monster's Ball. Then we learned that Halle can act, apart from being sexy and pretty, which obviously was her ticket to becoming a Bond Girl in Die Another Day opposite Pierce Brosnan. But she has yet to find a role that would showcase her acting talent the way Monster's Ball did. Too bad for Halle, because of Catwoman, she turned from Oscar winner to Razzie winner. Sometimes, winning an Oscar can do more harm than good to an actor's career.

How desperate can Lois Lane be? We first saw the youthful Teri Hatcher in the hit TV series "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman". She was sexy and sizzling but after a while, TV was dominated by fresher faces and talents. Although we saw her in a number of films and TV stints, it wasn't until "Desperate Housewives" that she was able to bounce back to the limelight while running against Sex and the City gang as one of the most popular actresses on TV today.
Tuesday, April 24. 2007
It was in Sunnyvale, San Francisico that Teri Lynn Hatcher was born on December 8, 1964. She was the only daughter of Owen and Esther Hatcher. She was born from a family of professionals. Her father worked as a nuclear physicist and her mother, a computer programmer. She was a true-blue performer even while attending Fremont Highschool. She was a leader of a dance troupe and she also loved fishing with her father. She was juggling a supposed to be professional career while enrolled for an undergraduate study in mathematics and engineering and pursuing an acting course at the American Conservatory Theatre at the same time. It was a streak of luck when she came along with a friend to offer moral support, only to end up as cast for a Hollywood role. The tides of change brought her to Hollywood as Superman's babe and to be a desperate housewife.
Monday, April 23. 2007
Teri Hatcher came close in playing as James Bond girl in Tomorrow Never Dies almost a decade ago. But even if a decade had past, it was only now when she glimmers the most. Unfortunately, there's not as much sparkle in Teri Hatcher's film career. There's a movie appearance and a couple of movie role tidbits, but there was none to make her a popular name for the industry. Teri Hatcher's career was again on a glorious roll with "Desperate Housewives". Whether she's desperate or not, it sincerely made Teri Hatcher slam with a bang in every American household. As Susan Mayer, we were able to captivate not the sexy Lois Lane but the klutzy Teri Hatcher. She's fun and most of the time utterly innocent. For most ladies, she's a fashion icon and sensible housewife character. For men, she can only be the great Teri Hatcher-- the hot body even at her age, sensible eyes, exotic charm, and the klutzy Susan Mayer who made every TV jerk laugh.

Indeed, reality bites even for a glimmering Hollywood career. I wonder if Johnny Depp has something to do with the neurotic twist of fate for Winona Ryder. They were once engaged, only to end up their separate ways. While we see Johnny still a silver screen icon, Winona's on a shadow after pulling a shop lift act in a famous boutique. Whatever the media say about her, she's still one of the beautiful faces ever to grace the screen. Sweet and naughty, that's Winona's appeal.
Saturday, April 21. 2007
She was born on October 29, 1971 in Winona, Minnesota. Obviously that's where Winona Laura Horowitz got her name. She grew up with hippy couple Michael and Cindy, and that explains her rather erratic and sometimes eclectic taste in life, and sometimes even with boys. She's fond of films and theaters before she dreamt of being an actress someday. This Hollywood beauty used to be skinny and tomboyish. Once, she was mistaken as an effeminate fag that boys from school bullied her. The reason she enrolled in a home study before she went to the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.

We only see the sob story of a desperate woman in dire need of rehabilitation, but don't you forget her glamorous roles in more than 25 films. We often see her play century-old characters that she loved doing with her love for literature. If there's one movie hit that's very hip and witty, it has to be Reality Bites opposite Ethan Hawke. Her other critically acclaimed movies include, "The Crucible" and "The Little Women". I doubt if she could still revive a dead career and come back to haunt us all. But if she does, may she live in peace with a sound mind after rehab.
