Having won two Sundance Film Festival Awards the movie "The Squid and the Whale" proved to be one angst-ridden but dramatically honest indie film. It is the loving work of Noah Baumbach, a story which was in fact derived from his teenage experience. It is about two teenage boys who must deal with the divorce of their parents. Watching the trailer clip of this movie would give you a fair idea of why movie critics have bowed down and given it a positive rating.
Moviegoers would be caught unawares and wonder why the title was such. There is no explanation (some consider it badly titled, reminding them of a Disney film anyway). Women are seen in a rather negative light, with the mother played by Laura Linney appearing as a promiscuous woman and one of the boy's girlfriends
kissing the father played by Jeff Daniels. The other co-stars are Jesse Eisenberg and Owen Kline, the Berkmans' (family name) sons, also played major roles in the movie.
