
With pop corn in one hand and my girlfriend beside me, what more can a guy ask for? Well, occasional hugs and kisses from my girl will be enough rewards for queuing in the long line of movie ticket buyers. The dark and cold setting of the movie house is an ideal place for romance. However, the cold sweat and fast palpitation I was having were not due to the sweet and romantic caresses of my girlfriend. We were just holding hands. Our hands were both icy cold, not so much because of the air conditioning. Another girl was in my mind. She has long and dark hair. She has very fair skin, in anemic kind of way. Her fair skin was very odd, as if no blood was running in her veins. She was the ghost on the screen.
When my girlfriend invited me to watch the
Thai movie Shutter, I was hesitant. I thought it would be better for me to play a
PC game than to watch this movie. That would be more
wise money spending. My hesitation was not because of lack of courage. I have watched many films of the same genre before. My hesitation was because I was afraid that I will not be scared of this movie. I thought the movie was just another version of the Ringu franchise. Yes, it has the familiar vengeful female ghost. However, the storyline was more coherent. Every scene contributes to the overall understanding of the film. Unlike the Grudge, which was more of random events with no clear plot, the movie shutter has a different twist. The ending was very chilling indeed. We had to watch it thrice just to get over the shock.
